Jamaicans for inJustice? jOKE?!

Jamaicans for Justice! JFJ is one of the only Organisations based in Jamaica that is a registered Human Rights organization
Their ethos claims to be interested in helping Jamaicans by advocating for our Constitutional Rights and Human Rights to be enforced!

After my recent challenges with having my Constitutional rights, specifically my rights to Legal Counsel and Fair treatment within the judicial system were blatantly disregarded at the Magistrates court in Kingston, Jamaica.

I contacted JFJ for assistance and I found them to be actually very irresponsible, unresponsive and to date I am yet to receive a response to my application for assistance!

In fact when I went to find the offices for JFJ I was really disappointed, and started to think that the whole Organization has to be a very tasteless joke! The offices themselves are situated on the edge of a very notorious community "Grants Pen" situated on the edge literally of a huge Gully. When I saw the location I wondered if JFJ are testing the nerve of their potential clients?

To see who is really brave enough to actually come to visit their offices. Well I was already almost there so I continued although feeling very uncomfortable having taken a bus up Constant Spring Road, I was walking to find the offices from the main road and I was alone.

In spite of all of my efforts to relate to JFJ how serious my situation or how frightened I was, none of their staff seems to have any specific training that would help to alleviate the stress, or anxiety of a potential client, in order to put them at ease and make them feel more positive about their situation. In fact after walking so far alone, I wasn't greeted with a positive attitude at all which I would expect from a Human Rights organisation at least! The Receptionist was actually rude to me creating a really negative first impression. She practically turned me away at the door and I had to get serious and refuse to accept her dismissal, before she agreed to have one of the team actually speak with me and take my details.

Is it really advisable for an organization that claims to have an ethos to assist persons who feel that there is nowhere else for them to turn to get assistance with establishing their rights. To be situated in such a volatile place, is this really a good choice of location?

I have many other questions about the representation or misrepresentation more accurately, of our Rights and the subject of Human Rights in general but I think that looking at the basic, principles, the foundation is an important place to start. As the subject of Human Rights and Constitutional Rights is quite lengthy and broad. But where do we start if we cannot even get to talk about the issues in a  reasonable, neutral setting?

And then again even after several calls and an email to initiate a complaint and still no response! After more than two years since that initial visit. This is not only a bad impression, there is something very wrong here!

SIGN THE Petition for LEGAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!

Following on from the last Blog post...

If we all have legal rights and a right to defend our legal rights in court but we cannot afford to pay for the legal assistance - how can we take legal action?

I have started a PETITION online to gain support for this WORTHY, URGENT cause, and to see if we can get some attention directed towards this issue of our LEGAL RIGHTS, our CONSITUTIONAL Rights and HUMAN Rights being afforded to us ALL!

Obstructing Justice!

If a person has their money, assets or business taken from them that is their wealth, their income. And they need to defend their legal rights, how can they do this without the funds?

If we all have legal rights and a right to defend our legal rights in court but we cannot afford to pay for the legal assistance - how can we take legal action?

If we all have civil and constitutional rights to get legal assistance, to be given a fair trial, when held in a police station, or in jail etc

But the system is not giving persons access to this right, then is the system itself, not obstructing Justice?

And even provoking more crimes, than upholding Justice. If persons who obtain money through illegal activities or corruption can afford a legal defense. But honest, genuine hardworking persons can't.

Who then will be able to mount a solid legal defense? So if a person wants to completely violate another persons rights all they would have to do is take away and control their money!

Without being able to afford a good Lawyer, or legal team even, they would not be able to defend themselves and would be planning to fail!

The PEN America Award for Prison Writers!

Writing whilst in difficult times can be very therapeutic and helpful to constructively vent stress and anxiety. Persons spending time in hospital or convalescent after a period of hospitalisation or recovering from a debilitating condition. Often find time to write as a positive response to their situation that can also prove to be a very profitable use of their time. I recall studying English Literature years ago the poems of Sylvia Plath who famously wrote of "Tulips" while experiencing a painful recovery from an operation.

The Prison system within the constraints of confinement has also inspired many Authors to write their stories. For there is little distraction in certain particular cases a pen can be the minds only escape whilst incarcerated, and to be somewhat liberated in instances of harsh fate or injustice... PEN America Prison Writing program includes more than 30 mentors working with imprisoned Writers.

Last November PEN American announced a New Competition sponsored by a grant from the estate of the late Madeleine L'Engle for the participants of the competition in the Literary and human rights organisation's prison writing mentorship program.

Eight winners all received $250 and a set of books chosen by their Mentor/Mentee.  The honour is called the PEN America L'Engle-Rahman prize for Mentorship named for the author of the classic "A Wrinkle in Time" and for the late educator and Black Panther Leader Ahmad Rahman whom L'Engle became friends with whilst he was in prison.

CRIMINAL Corrections system!

Its been over three years exactly, since my experience and to this date I am yet to be able to get an Attorney or to find the funds to pay for the files to be expunged from the Records, in the system in Florida.

But I am asking if a person is travelling and is wrongfully arrested in another country, where they do not reside...

How will they be expected to make amends after they have left the country?
So many of the Authorities and Government Offices particularly, are difficult to contact when overseas.

Plus, it takes a lot of funds for telephone calls, correspondences and even to employ the services of an Attorney, or Lawyer or other Legal Professional to act on your behalf to make the necessary applications.

So how is it possible for a person to "stand up for their rights", to effectively recover themselves from a negative experience like this if they are not financially able?

And also Why? Why should I have to pay for these expenses when the incident should not have taken place in the first place. I already lost a lot of money, an important business contract and other valuables because of this matter, now I am expected to pay again and again!

It seems like Daylight Robbery to me - the system is not only negligent, abusive but it is also CRIMINAL!

Introduction to the Caged bird sings..

Greetings BLOG Community!

I have been meaning to get this particular Blog page started for some time.
After my recent TERRIBLE experience of the Corrections system in DCJ, Miami Dade County Jail.
I felt compelled to write about my experiences and share my thoughts on what I observed while I spent three weeks incarcerated, illegally without justification!

I also would like to share the stories of other persons who have been illegally imprisoned, unfairly detained and whose lives, and businesses and reputation have been destroyed by a system that stands for anything except Justice and TRUTH!

Please Comment and PLEASE FEEL free to contact me with your own stories that you would like to share on this BLOG!
